Karan Singh for Facebook Messenger

Outline Agency

Karan Singh created ‘Kosmos’, a 360 degree, augmented reality background created in collaboration with Facebook Openarts for the Messenger app.

The animation is a homage to 80s space futurism, Karan recalls “I remember the designs of blank VHS tapes when I was a kid. The scenes were always surreal; orbs floating in and amongst mountains and Greek columns in outer space. I loved this marriage of contrasts; old meeting new and the natural meeting the artificial. ‘Kosmos’ is also a marriage of styles for me, as I merge some of my older work with the new.”

‘Kosmos’ is on Messenger now as a background for video calls.

Diversifying Illustration - Outline Artists is part of Agents For Change

Outline Agency

Outline Artists is proud to be a founding member of Agents for Change, an assembly of illustration-based agencies in the UK, working together with the shared goal of increasing diversity across the creative industry.

We do this through our own individual organisations and the decisions we make, as well as collectively providing support and resources for young people, emerging artists of all ages, and teachers.

It’s clear there is a lot to be done in the creative industry to better represent our society, to achieve diversity, inclusion and accessibility. We want much greater numbers of underrepresented people of all ages to thrive within the industry, with particular emphasis on BAME people and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

As agents, our jobs sit within the creative industry representing illustrators, animators, set designers, installation artists and more. But the work we help create is everywhere. Whether that’s on billboards and television adverts, social media, the apps and websites we use, food and product packaging, magazines and books, and all else in between. The list is endless.

We are in a position to affect change in the industry, and together we believe we can really make a difference.
